VALENDEM

ENERGY PRODUCTION FROM MUNICIPAL LANDFILL EMISSIONS
ACRONYM: VALENDEM
COORDINATING PROJECT:NATIONAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE FOR INDUSTRIAL ECOLOGY

The members of the consortium:
P1 – “POLITEHNICA UNIVERSITY OF BUCHAREST, Faculty of Energy;
P2 – TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF CLUJ NAPOCA, Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering

GENERAL OBJECTIVE: “Identify and establish techniques to exploit a municipal landfill emissions leading to the development of knowledge in the field, to solve complex problems and create mechanisms for implementing specific integrated waste management”

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
–    Study of the situation at national level of the energy potential of municipal landfills in the context of the alignment to European waste management policy;
–    Design, construction and testing of functional models for capture and characterization of landfill gas;
–    Establishment to the  ways of recovering energy from gaseous emissions.

INDICATORS OF RESULTS:
1)    Study of national interest: “At the national level prognosis for energy recovery of gaseous emissions during the life cycle of municipal landfills”;
2)    Study of local interest: “Induced environmental impact of emissions from municipal landfill ClujNapoca”;
3)    An scientific papers published in a journal indexed in IDB and 2 papers presented at international conferences.

EQUIPMENT USED: Portable Gas AnalyzerGA 2000 Plus.

POSIBILITIES FOR PROJECTS OUTPUTS:
–    Carrying out investigations to determine the composition of gaseous emissions from various municipal landfills (comply or did not comply);
–    Induced environmental impact assessment of emissions from municipal landfills.
